Question

Epson Perfection scanner 'not communicating'

Epson Perfection V370 purchased in June '15 was running perfectly (using Image Capture) on my 27" iMac in Mavericks before updating to El Capitan (currently 10.11.2).

Scanner no longer shows as a device in Image Capture (no device connected) and attempts to open Epson Scan from Applications show a 'Cannot communicate with scanner' message.

The scanner shows in System Information USB.

Have downloaded and installed latest drivers (epson16673.dmg) from Epson El Capitan page.

Advice, please,

10.11.2 is not available for public consumption. Sorry, but you'll have to get bugs reported through the proper channels:

This is just a user to user board, and speculation of future products is strictly forbidden.

By the way, Epson has yet to update their scanner drivers for El Capitan that are included in Apple's operating system updates. I would also consult with them.

There are alternative open source drivers that may work better*:

Hi Les,

I have exactly the same problem with my Epson Perfection V700 photo under 10.11.2 beta2. Please use the Feedback Assistant to report this back to Apple.

Hi Les,

The following worked for me:

On your Mac, open Image Capture, then select File > Reset TWAIN devices.

Close Image Capture.

Restart your Mac.

I'm using el capitan point 1. there is no file>reset twain anything in image capture.

my new epson v 600 seems to work just fine when I open the scanner in system preferences. however, ESPSON SCAN doesn't work at all. I get that "scanner not communicating, read the book, stupid" message.

HELP !!

so out of somewhere up pops the little EPSON Series dialogue box that tell me that my "scanner is assigned to image capture do i want to use it with TWAIN?"

YES

and now I have EPSON Scan !?!
