Large 'open and save' dialog boxes in El Capitan

Why is my open and save dialog boxes large in el capitan, I cannot see the top or bottom of the screen. I'm able to 'Shift Click' the side to modify the size to fit but want to know if this is a known issue with El Capitan.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

defaults read -g | pbcopy

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

Also, I was incorrect when I mentioned 'Mail' was affected. This issue is only related to MS Office 2011, when I modified Word by using 'shift + click' the 'save as dialog' box stays in place the next time I save a document. The other programs that I use in Office (Excel and PowerPoint) have not been modified so the save as dialog box is still off the screen.

I solved my issue by doing the following - I changed the resolution to the 'more space' setting, went to save - dialogue box very big.... but because of changed resolution I could see the whole thing. I resized the dialogue box to the smallest size, saved the file, and then changed the resolution back to default. Then when I went to save again, the box fit the screen - same process should also work for the Finder window.

you can change the resolution for the screen in "system preferences" which is under the small apple logo on the upper top left of your screen then go to "screens" and then choose a resolution that is fairly low.. i am running "el capitan" my screen preferences was set for "default for display' i changed it to 1152 x 720 saved my document... then reset it back to "default for display" now every time a go to save a sword document the save box is the proper size... good luck...

and then go back to this setting after you have "saved" your document...
