My restrictions code is different from my passcode but I never set one. How do I reset the restriction code?

13 failed attempts and a back up and clean wipe later.. still nothing to release the restrictions... sigh.. its less work to order a phone off amazon and have it delivered in a day, than to spend ANOTHER night on this with 60 minute timeout intervals... why are you making me sad, Apple?

You already know that you are only talking to fellow users on here, not Apple nor iTunes Support.

If you restored to a backup and the backup was taken when the restrictions code was on the device, you will still have it on it

Well you have to restore as new.

I have had exactly the problem. I have an iPad 3 and after the most recent update iOS9 I suddenly have a restrictions passcode that never existed before.

I have heard from several people who have exactly the same problem.

Apple refuses to admit there is an issue here. They assume we are all morons who just 'forgot'. Well I'm no moron and I NEVER has a restriciton on my iPad.

I cannot restore from a backup, because I backed up my iPad post updating. Now I am supposed to reset as NEW and start all over again.

Not at all happy with the attitude from Apple and their response to this. Not happy at all.

same issue with new iPhone and the old one when I attempted to restore to factory settings did the same thing then when I did a complete erase it asked me for restriction code again??? I do not know what to do...

have you tried 0000

i have the same problem you have to type in 0000 and it will say its wrong the first time then type in 0000 for the second time and it unlocks

0000 does not work tried it twice now i am up to 4 failed attempts and again as everyone else has said above I did not forget my restrictions code I NEVER set one. i have this issue on both my old iPhone i am trying to restore to factory as well as the brand new one I have only had a couple months and I am pretty sure it all started with one of the recent OSI updates. Perhaps someone should look into that instead of insisting we all forgot we set a code.

reset as new asks for a code too so it does not help

Try recovery mode : If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

you can try restoring after taking the backup. Otherwise you can call to customer care they will help you out

If you can't remember it then restore to your backup (if the code wasn't in place when the backup was taken), or reset the iPad back to factory defaults, to remove it

If you know your existing code restore to your backup (if the code wasn't on the device when you took the backup), or reset the device back to factory defaults (after copying off anything that you want to keep)
