iPhone charging port repair and replacement options

my less than year old iphone 6 has issues charging. it seems that even with brand new lightning charger cables, it would not charge unless i fiddle with it and look for the exact position in which it does charge. So very unreliable and something is clearly wrong with the port. WHat is the easiest way to get the port replaced?

I'm embarrassed to say how skeptical I was about this... until I got a small paperclip and started digging. I had to use some moderate force and then... gobs of lint came out. I think I finally got all the lint out of the port and now, my problem is solved. Lightning cables make a good, tight connection now and I'm not constantly wiggling it around to get it to charge. Thank you!

Guys and girls! You HAVE to clean your phone out! I have been fidgeting my charger around for days and questioning my ihome, bed, and car chargers and have thought they were all broken. I'd tried all the ticks like using airplane mode and restarting your phone etc.

Again, you HAVE to clean your phone out with a tack, paper clip, etc. I am in disbelief/disgusted of how much dust came out of the different orifices of my phone. It would amount to probably cover a quarter if I included the headphone and speaker holes. I created one of these accounts for the sole purpose of helping/saving other iPhone folk from being forced to buy a new battery or phone etc. Thanks again to the other commenters on this thread.

My son and I both have Iphone 6 and both started having the same charging problems around the same time. Had to wiggle the charger to just the right spot to get it to charge, and then could not move it...even the vibrate would stop it from charging. I thought it was a factory defect. Found this forum & cleaned out the port with a thumb-tack....FIXED!

Thanks!

Thank you for posting this . I was on the verge of upgrading my two year old iPhone 6. Tried different cables and I even blew out the port with air. Had to mess with cable just rt and carefully set it down so it would charge .

Cleaned out , scraped out port with a thin metal pin and wow! Couldn't believe all the dirt and dust that came out . Worked like a charm! Plugged it in and VIOLA! Thanks

False. They may be new or re-manufactured. That is not the same as "used". They also come with a minimum of 90 days warranty. If they are replacing a unit that had a warranty, or AppleCare agreement, they will inherit the balance of that, or 90 days, whichever is longer.

I had the same problem last night so I took it to the Genius Bar this afternoon where they determined the port was corroded and non replaceable. Because the phone isn't covered by AppleCare they offered to swap it for another 6s at a cost of $300.

This was a bit of a surprised since I've always kept it in a case since I bought it two years ago and I don't expose it to any kind of extreme weather.

I was just about to order a new phone when I found this thread, so I cleaned it some more with a swab, then a match, and finally a toothpick even though I couldn't see any visible dust. What did I have to lose? When I plugged the charger into an outlet it started up.

If at first you don't succeed try try.....

Thanks everyone for this thread. You all just saved me nearly $800.

I had the same issue with my iPhone 6s wasn’t charging properly unless I fiddle with it or hold it in a certain position but after reading this thread I used a safety pin to clean out debris in the lightening port and it’s working perfectly now. I think all the dust must have accumulated as I put my phone in my jeans / trouser pocket!!

Thanks for the information. Took me a couple of minutes using the stalk off a ladies earring.

It’s really amazing. All the cables I’ve thrown away, the hours of frustration. I can’t believe how simple the remedy was.

Thank you to all who posted. Posting isn’t my scene but this revelation made me let others know how to sort out the problem. Tell a friend !

Thanks again
