unwanted black line after crop on bottom and right side of photo

Hi, since i am using el capitan 10.11.1 with Aperture 3.6 using the crop tool, my photos get an unwanted thin black linearound the photo at the bottom and/or right side of the photo.

i thought it was a similar problem as the colour in onscreen proofing mode and that it would not be visible in print. but the line shows on the print too.

what should i do? HELP

This may be related to another problem that has been reported here a few months ago - that the the brushes will not workprecisely and thethe position of the appiied effect were a few pixels off.

Re: Repair/Clone brushing broken under El Capitan

Have you tested with a new Aperture library, created for testing, to see if the problem only occurs in your current library or is independent of the library?

I have not seen a solution and I cannot reproduce the problem.

You'll have to do some trouble shooting to find out if the problem is particular to your system or a bug.

  • Try to narrow down the problem, by finding out if it only happens for your current aperture library as I suggested above.
  • If it happens even in a new library, try to find out if it is specific to your current user account or will happen in the Guest User account as well. See: Isolating an issue by using another user account
  • If it is a system wide problem, happening in all accounts, check, if you have non-apple software installed, that might be interfering, because it is not compatible with the current system.

Post back with the test results - before we know, if it is system wide, library specific, or user account specific it is hard to suggest something.

Since it is system wide and not restricted to your user account, try to reinstall the system by booting into the Recovery partition. This will restore all parts of the system, not just the parts installed by the El Cap upgrade.

Make a current backup before you try that, if you do not have a current backup.

To restore the system from Recovery see this link: OS X: About OS X Recovery

but happens also when not using the bamboo one

The problem with incompatible software is, that they can be causing trouble, even when they are not used. Some software installs system extensions, replacing or deactivating the new system extensions needed by the system, and that can cause other applications to crash or behave strangely.

hi Léonie, I went through all the steps and restored from recovery but in both my normal and my test library the photos act the same; when I apply burn and/or dodge, the black lines appear.

before doing the recovery i removed wacom software and have not installed it back yet.

i am really worried now...

any other suggestions? your help is much appreciated!

Did you have Viveza 2 installed?

ProTec6 has been installed by Viveza, afaik. A startup item, that is calling home to check the licensing status of the software. These items do not work in El Capitan, but I do not know, if they will do any harm.

If there are more dubious items in the list, ask in the El Capitan Forum for help (see this link: Apple — OS X El Capitan). In this forum are our system experts. They are more experienced than I am to identify potentially dangerous system extensions and to help to uninstall them.

Is Aperture showing for you on the Purchases tab of the App Store? Then it would be worth a try to reinstall Aperture.

You can only reinstall, if Aperture is showing in your Purchase History.

  • Move Aperture from the Applications folder to the Trash, but don't empty the Trash.
  • Relaunch the AppStore, open the Purchases tab, and press the "Install" button.
