iPad Pro screen is yellow

Just got my new iPad Pro and love it, best iPad ever. But I've noticed the screen color temperature is significantly shifted more toward the warm/yellow tones than my other two iPads, which are cool/bluish. I like th blue better, it makes whites look cleaner. I was wondering if this is a common issue?

As I posted in the feedback link, no one from Apple will respond, but the feedback goes to the cognizant Apple employees or product group/team.

No one directly resposible for any of Apple's products development ever reads or participates in these community forums.

The feedback pages ARE the only option to get the attention of those at Apple who are responsible for any phases of product development.

Hi all, I have the same issue with the iPad 4 Mini. I bought an iPad 4 Mini 16GB from the Apple Store online, but I noticed the problem of the yellow display just I received it. In order to check if the problem is only on my unit, I went in a retail store and I compared my device with another iPad 4 Mini in the store. The display of the iPad in the store was perfectly calibrated, while the display of my iPad was too warm. So I have decided to send back my iPad and ask Apple to replace it. The second one that Apple sent me had exactly the same issue. So I have decided to give back it and asked my money back. After a couple of day I went in a shop and I have decided to buy an iPad Mini 4 64GB. When I have switched on it, I have noticed the same problem. I have checked the production week of the different iPad's by using the serial number and seems that the problem is related to the iPads produced in october 2015, while all the iPads that I have seen in the stores with a calibrated display are produced in July 2015. So, I suspect that the issue is related to the last delivered iPads, maybe because the last displays are produced by another producer, or because the last displays have some problems. In the first case, the issue could be solved with a software update, but in the second case the issue maybe will be permanent. I have read some posts of some people that had the same problem with the iPad Mini 3 and that say the issue is due to a glue used in the production of the new displays. These people say the issue disappears after some weeks of usage. What do you think about?

adrian.ck,

Obviosusly yours has a major defect...the yellow tinted screens are somewhat uniform throughout.Briansyddall, Im on the 6th 128GB gold unit and also has this dreaded yellow. I spoke to an apple store person and yes they said to just keep on returning them....But this isnt an answer to this problem. There is a possibility since all the 128's i've tried have this yellow tint that some say is warmer, that it may be done on purpose, because they feel that the user of the 128's is a graphics professional and some of them like the warmer color..I wouldnt mind if there was a way to adjust the base color like I have on my Macbook pro, but unfortunately there isnt...so I guess I'll just keep returning and buying until either apple fixes the problem or I get lucky with my purchase. Either way, if your listening apple, this isnt the way to manufacture panels.

After two units (iPad Mini 4 16GB) from the online Apple Store, I have decided to ask Apple to give back my money and I have decided to buy another one (iPad Mini 4 64GB) in a shop, but also on this I have the yellow screen problem. Just for info, from the serial number also this last unit has been produced in october 2015. I think the problem is on the units produced in the last month. I think for the yellow screen issue there are only two possible reasons:

1. Apple has started to use other panels of other producers that need about a specific calibration.

2. There is a problem in the panel production.

I suppose that the reason 2. is more probable, because the issue is on all the iPad devices (Mini, Air and Pro).

Hello Everyone🙂:

I have read the various postings about the "yellowing" of the screens, and this is a sad. It truly is. I remember the last time I upgraded my iPad2 to an iPad Air, I had to replace it 4 times because it had various problems with bleeding, and it would not turn on, etc.

To me, this sounds like a screen defect. What I learned is when I upgrade, I always test my iPad to its max, with various benchmarks, to see if I can get it to fail. If it does not, then I can rule out hardware problems, and narrow it down to the iOS.

There is also a bleed/dead pixel test you can run on not just the iPad, but on all the tablets, and I use it because it really pops out the brightest colors of the iPad. It is great! It shows you if there really is a problem with your iPad. I always run it on my iPad, and I do it at least once a month, just to be sure my iPad/iPhone are okay.

Here is the link to the test if anyone wants to try it out, and to see if you have a bad screen, or if your iPad is okay. Remember to follow the directions to the letter:

Thanks, and I hope this was helpful! May God continue to richly bless you and all those you love and care for and keep you all safe🙂

The yellowing is due to inconsistency's in the display process..this yellowing due to glue theory isn't really true...if your screen has the yellow hue...it will continue to have it....there isn't any air to dry it as its a sealed unit, so how is the glue suppose to dry...lol....if your happy with your yellowed unit..then keep it...I personally wouldn't for 1000.00 bucks or more?

Dec 10, 2015 9:14 AM in response to abacus01

Well... I haven't bought one yet.

I generally don't race out and buy something in it's first production months, just in case there is a glitch somewhere.

The only exception to that rule was the First Gen iPad.

A true game changer, I HAD to get one immediately.

Which got me the unlimited data plan via ATT, which I still have, as long as I keep the bill paid.

So, no regrets there, and I had no issues with that first iPad, either. 🙂

I just posted that up as a try at offering something that might be optimistic, yet pertinent to the discussion, as there have been yellow screen issues before. It was offering a possibility.

It wasn't actually aimed at provocation.

As for adhesive drying and clearing;

There are many substances that change molecularly as they dry and/or heat.

Colours can change then.

Try sandwiching some elmer's between two plates of glass smashed together and watch what happens over time.

Is an iPad TRULY a vacuum? It certainly does heat, somewhat...

Anyway, just a thought from somebody who hasn't yet raced out to buy a first production.

Truly hope your situation gets better.

I'm getting the iPad pro 128gb cellular for Christians and after reading these comments and looking at the photos I unwrapped it and the screen is as white as my iPad Air. There is no yellow tint at all to the screen. I did have the low sound bug for notifications and lock sounds but iOS 9.2 fixed that.

I Live in the uk and my friends pro also has a nice white screen so do you think it has something to do with what locations we are in? I can remember my iPad 2 had a very yellow screen when new but seemed to lose the yellow tint after a few weeks. Apple told me it was to do with the bonding process. I don't know how true this is? Have you managed to find a pro with a white screen yet?

Dec 14, 2015 5:48 AM in response to traceyfromwirral

Hey traceyfrom,

I think that the post I made 2 up is probably pertinant, the referenced article indeed discusses the bonding process and how the screens whiten up over time.

I rather imagine you may be correct in thinking it's a possibility.

I think that location might be a factor in that different "batches" of iPads will go to different locations.

If I think about it like batches of biscuits off a sheet...biscuit batch A goes to London, while biscuit batch B goes to Toronto...and so on. If Biscuit batch A got a bit of a different cook, or the techs were different people, one can see how there might be some inconsistency somewhere. And, according to the article I linked, much of this is due to a bit of hurry in production/shipping due to rapid demand. So I wouldn't be surprised that a specific location might get a batch that was rushed to sale. Maybe before the adhesive was set.

All speculation, but it kind of makes sense.

And it seems to follow well with other occaisions that the yellow screen dealie has been seen.

Happy Christmas and congrats on your white-screened iPad!

The 128gb model screen looks whiter than the 32gb. I would stick with the one you have now. It's perfect. I don't think you would be satisfied with a 32gb as Apple use a huge chuck on space for iOS.

THe reason I got the 128gb this time is because my iPad Air is only a 16gb and for the last two years I have had to juggle apps and delete certain apps until I really need them again. It has been a bit of a nightmare. I plan on keeping the pro for at least two years so wanted the most space possible.

IM hoping I read your comment right but it looks as though you got a great screen this time.

I Only got mine last week so I'm wondering if the later models are free from the yellow tint to the screen.

Dec 14, 2015 8:32 AM in response to hosshead

thank you. I'm happy don't have the yellow screen.

WHat you have said about the different batches and different "cooks" is probably correct as I went into my local Apple Store in Liverpool one today and looked at every single iPad pro on display. None had the dreaded yellow screen. Both 32gb and 128gb were completely fine. I spoke to one of the guys there about it and as far as he knew there had been no reports of any being returned because of this issue. This leads me to to believe that it must be a location problem. Also when were the iPads with the yellow screen bought? Mine is less than a week old. So were the ones in the Apple Store. They had no iPad pro display models until a week ago. I think Apple may be more aware of the problem than they are making out.

Dec 14, 2015 9:47 AM in response to nefphoto

I Also thought this. Mine is one of the newer ones. I bought it a few days ago and all the ones in the Apple Store today were only put on display yesterday. They have completely sold out of the 32gb model in my Apple Store. They said they are taking back orders now as they are so popular.

have some screens become worse with iOS 9.2? Now that's very odd.

SUrely apple must know about the problem by now.
