What is the exact length of the Apple pencil?
Can someone tell me the exact length of the Apple pencil? Thank you!

When you say "new pencil", do you mean a #2 pencil that you must sharpen before using (yellow pencil)? - OR - do you mean a mechanical pencil like the plastic {BIC} ECOlutions 0.7mm #2 lead ?
http://www.apple.com/apple-pencil/ shows what seem to be 'actual size' pictures (at least to my eye - the PENCIL and hand are pretty close to my hand [small] and my very own {BIC} pencil) - it also shows a 'profile' at the bottom of the page that measures ±5-1/4". My ˆ{BIC} measures exactly 5-7/8", lead-tip to eraser-tip(new)
#2 pencil seems like good UX design for the target market of Artists, who use them in all colors for sketch work. Even 'charcoal' pencils are shaped the same.
When at the Store, did you get a feel for Will the apple pencil work on ipad air 2 - i.e., how do you think it 'interacts' WITH the iPad Pro? Is it using 'touch' enhancements of the display or some special mojo hardware sharing OR Both?
Do you think the Pencil/Pad combo would work for "field mapping" (like in surveying) with a clipboard, rule and straight edge? (when I surveyed, I put the clipboard every whichaway while drawing on it - very often upside down on my thigh)
Aloha CCC.
Unfortunately I forgot to bring my #2 pencil with me when I went to check out the Pro so I can't say wih a 100% certainty. But that's never stopped me before. I'd say it's fairly close to a unsharpned #2 pencil. The Pro itself is a thing of beauty.
Stay well. Bob.

So that's 176mm to the rest of us then.
Thanks for the measurement though!
In one of my former lives, I was a Land Surveyor in Texas... imagine trying to do complex trigonometry in feet and inches! (we cheated... divided feet into 'decimal feet' - hundredths for 'tape' measurements and as many decimal places as you had the $$ for for calculations 😉
My {BIC} pencil would be ±0.48 FEET long - 1/8" = ±0.08 feet
To the best of my knowledge it works with the bluetooth signal of the Apple Pencil and the new layer in the screen to receive the signal. I fail to see the need for a Apple conspiracy to deny iPad Air 2 uses the use of the Pencil like in the link you provided. There is a physical difference in the screen you can't back date onto older models.

Yes... knew about Bluetooth* (of course) - could not imagine how realistic performance could be realized without the pressure sensitivity being utilized from the display technology (NEW) as opposed from within the Pencil only (would have allowed pairing it with anything)
RE: conspiracy = is a word that was never used. It would be more accurately described as "designed obsolescence" as evidenced by the products cited there that ONLY work on new devices or new OSes (SuperDrive & Magic Mouse 2 for example)
As one poster remarked, the Pencil will not even PAIR with anything but the PRO due to the requirement of Lightning Cable MUST connect them both AND no other iPad offers pairing when connected thusly. [discretion is the better part of valor]
[chuckle]
{you must have made a special run back to your 'workbench' for the caliper micrometer?}
*design?
I am retired! Background in 'field drafting' as a Land Surveyor. After became a "New Media" designer/author - jack-of-all-related trades - Master of Director Lingo
Now curmudgeonly volunteer!

[heh heh]
Still sounds a little "approximate" to me (the Surveyor in me is a stickler for precision) - didya use any kind of straight edge to get your Sharpie lines? Perfectly perpendicular?
A drafting triangle would do the trick to get to points to draw a straight line between - repeat for the other side of the encil (providing you didn't let the encil slip) - Then allow for the width of the Sharpie lines... which "side" of the line do you measure TO?
*In other words, you still "eyeballed it"!!
👿
buenos noches, amigo

It's about the size of the one in the link below. A better idea, go to the Apple Store, tell them you'r interested in the iPad Pro and they'll ask if you want to try the Pencil. Bring your micrometer.
6 15/16 inches

I'd love to know this too 🙂
I can't find the exact lenght but having tried the Apple Pencil yesterday I'd say it's the same size as a new pencil..

Thank you. I couldn't find the dimensions anywhere.
