iPhoto crashes after opening repeatedly

I could yes. Was just working at added faces to a bunch of photos using the "info" tab. Worked for about 20 min. BUT then it did just quit on me again!

I'm also one of the early reporters to note this problem (crashing when trying to access Info). Unfortunately, I just tried to locate the iPhoto plist and also the containers folder as you suggested, but neither were evident as per your instructions. I found the preferences, but no iPhoto. I'm also running iPhoto 9.4.3 on Mt Lion 10.8.5. I did try rebuilding iPhoto, and recovered a number of images, also rebuilt (?) the thumbnails, to no avail.

This worked for me.

I needed help finding the hidden files.

Amazing how Google is everywhere and into everything.

My experience with this fix:

• After creating a new, blank library and importing a batch of 160 pictures, iPhoto did not shut down
• I then switched to my current library, and iPhoto shut down unexpectedly again
• I then quit iPhoto, relaunched with the option key down, and chose an old library. iPhoto warned that the library needed to be updated, so I chose cancel
• I then quit and relaunched iPhoto, chose my current library (NOT the new blank one I created for testing), and it seems to be stable again.
• I have no idea if choosing and then canceling the old library had any effect on this, but I documented all of my actions just in case

OS: 10.8.5

iPhoto: 9.4.3

As a side note, before I tried this fix, I attempted to fix the issue by trashing my install of iPhoto and reinstalling from my Purchased items. That did not solve the problem.

I also just noticed that when I open the Info sidebar, the Places module says "(Places lookup disabled)". I've never used Places anyway, so it doesn't affect me. I'm just glad to have iPhoto working again.

Whoops! Spoke too soon. iPhoto crashed again when I reopened after it was open for about 20 minutes. Someone else upthread mentioned the same behavior. I saved the crash report, and I can copy it here if anyone wants to see it. I suspect it will be the same as the others already posted.

OK, now I've tried Huxley647's fix and it seems to be working (for now). One funny side effect is that, in spite of the fact that I'm on the internet as I write this, the Places module displays this message:

He does say that Places would not work after deleting those files.

It says it because older version of iPhoto used Google Maps for places look up. That licence expired a few years ago and no iPhoto uses Apple Maps for the job. Older version require an update to use the Faces feature.

I tried all of the suggested fixes and this is the only one that made iPhoto operational again. Thank you!!!
