Hello again msaro,

You might want to double-check how you are removing this software. I don't see any change. The 3G USB software is still installed. The "clean up" software is still installed.

Once you get your machine running properly, you can consider re-installing the latest version of anything you have removed. But in order to get it to that point, you have to remove the software to see if it is a problem. If you remove the software and it is still running poorly, then you may need to replace your hard drive.

Hello again msaro,

Now you know the reason for the big disclaimer when you ran EtreCheck. I can assure you that Linc is wrong - no one here is trying to help him. 🙂

I can also assure you that Linc is misrepresenting the results of posting EtreCheck reports on this site. It is commonly known that he is a frequent user of EtreCheck reports. He look for situations where he thinks other people seem to have missed something in the report. He even has a cut-and-paste line he uses just for this occasion - "You're getting the usual results of posting "etrecheck" stuff on this site." He will then ask you to run his own diagnostics scripts or dump some information from logs files. Only then will he make a recommendation that other people might have suggested or is printed in red in your EtreCheck report.

In this case, Linc has only asked for information from your log files. If you want to provide that, it shouldn't waste very much of your time.

Would you be kind enough to elaborate on this statement. What do you mean by 'stuff'? You are being to vague for me and I suspect that may be the case for others as well. I participate on these forums not only to advise others but to learn as well. Therefore an explanation would be most appreciated. Certainly it cannot be simply a meaningless comment, can it?

Ciao.

Anyone who tells you that I have any use for "etrecheck" stuff is, to be overly polite about it, very much mistaken. I ignore it. Unfortunately I can't ignore the effects that the wretched "etrecheck" fad has had on people like yourself who come here looking for help with a technical problem.

But please, define what you mean by 'stuff"?

Again you use the 'fad'. Here is the definition of fad in the Apple dictionary:

Certainly there is enthusiasm for the Etrecheck report due to its various inherent positive qualities, but it clearly is not short-lived nor a craze. Therefore under no circumstances can it be construed as a 'fad'. By misusing the word, the meaning of your comment is rather obtuse. Should you wish to transmit your thoughts clearly to the reader, I submit that a better word choice is in order.

Ciao.

msaro the very first step in diagnosing Mac problems is to ensure a reliable backup exists. To learn how to use Time Machine read Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support.

I was able to find the following instructions regarding Koingo "MacCleanse". The apparent contradiction between dragging the app to the Trash vs. using some Uninstaller app (which I could not find) makes no sense to me, but that's the problem with ill-conceived garbage:

Unlike many other products on the market, our apps don't dig deeply into the system leaving stray files all over the place.

However, our MacCleanse app is the one exception to this and on its support page has a special Uninstaller app.

On Mac OS X: To remove an app, simply drag it to the Trash.

On Windows: Uninstall as usual from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.

For the neat-freaks on Mac OS, you may also want to remove the following cache and preferences files. They are easily identified by either the app name or the "Bundle Identifier" (ie. com.koingosw.MacPilot).

  1. In the Finder, click the "Go" menu and choose "Home".
  2. Open the "Library" folder. If it is not visible, you can show it by choosing "Show View Options" from the "View" menu and enabling the "Show Library Folder" option.
  3. Files and folder matching the app name or "Bundle Identifier" are found in and can be safely deleted from: Application Support, Caches, Logs, and Preferences.

There is also this note:

El Capitan (10.11) and some of Apple's latest security updates to Mac OS X 10.10 (and earlier) broke MacCleanse 4.

That's probably a good thing, but it may mean removing the earlier version that appears to remain installed on your Mac could prove difficult.

If you can find uninstallation instructions for the "MacCleanse" product you bought I recommend you follow them. Otherwise, the most expedient solution may be to erase that Mac and reconfigure it from a backup created prior to having used it.

"MacCleanse" is not among the many "cleaning" applications I evaluated so I cannot verify the effectiveness of the above instructions, but the way such programs work is through destruction of files or components of files including OS X system components that are expected to be present on any properly functioning Mac. I have evaluated other, similarly categorized "cleaning" programs, all of which which resulted in performance degradation to varying degrees including random crashes, the inability for programs to launch and / or function, or the inability to boot the system due to corruption requiring a complete erasure and reinstallation. Therefore merely removing "MacCleanse", even if you are successful at doing so, may not restore your system to its proper operational state.

"Cleaning" products are all scams. They are popular scams for a number of reasons, one of which is the instant gratification of rewarding the user with the appearance of more available disk space than there had been prior to their use. Using them cannot fix an ailing Mac. They cannot increase its performance. They cannot prevent malware. They cannot do anything beneficial whatsoever. They can only exacerbate existing problems, or create new ones. Apple does not ship Macs containing "junk" that needs to be deleted. Only Apple as well as any other software developers could possibly know what files or components of the apps they develop can be safely deleted. Besides, it stands to reason that if those components were superfluous, they wouldn't have been included to begin with.

Some outdated software, such as MacFUSE, appears to exist. Also, Google products including Google Drive are notorious for causing poor performance:

  • Uninstall Google Chrome, Google Drive, Google Talk, or whatever other Google products may be affecting your Mac. It's not enough just not to use it. It has to be uninstalled according to Google's instructions.
  • Google insists upon installing a plethora of system-altering components that litter a Mac with numerous processes and "helpers" that are notorious for causing degraded performance in furtherance of Google's zeal to harvest your personal information by any means necessary. It does so by infesting a Mac with constantly running, automatically updating, resource-intensive root level system modifications in the same manner as a "computer virus" would, if such a thing were to exist on a Mac, which it doesn't.
  • It's your Mac. Do with it as you please, but by agreeing to install Google products, you effectively cede control of it and the information it contains to Google. If you need to use Google products, expect the frequent need to upgrade your hardware at your expense.

The above are common problems that appear on this site every day, but none of them will directly address the reasons your Mac is performing poorly. There are number of ways to go about diagnosing what's wrong, such as to boot Safe Mode and observe its results, or to use Activity Monitor to find any resource-intensive processes, or to examine your system's log files, or to identify potential hardware failures. Additional troubleshooting steps can follow each of those steps. However, having already gone down the road of performing other actions such as installing additional memory without justification, you may be willing to continue troubleshooting in the manner you have, or not. If you determine that you are not making any progress, just start a new Discussion.

Thanks Linc for trying to help, i copied the log, its only from 4a this morning is that ok? when you say "The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough." any specific criteria to select these few dozens? i'm new to this and i will appreciate your support

Please remove the "Vodafone" software, which isn't working.

Any third-party software that doesn't install from the App Store or by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.

Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.

I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.

Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.

Back up all data before making any changes.

You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.

If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.

Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Please take these steps to resynchronize the iCloud keychain. Your keychain on iCloud and your other Apple devices won't be affected. Take Step 2 only if Step 1 doesn't solve the problem.

Step 1

Back up all data.

Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.

Step 2

If you still have problems, uncheck the Keychain box again and continue.

Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

~/Library/Keychains

In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

A folder named "Keychains" should open. Inside it is a subfolder with a long name similar to (but not the same as) this:

421DE5CA-D745-3AC1-91B0-CE5FC0ABA128

The above is only an example; yours will have a different name of the same general form. Drag the subfolder (not the Keychains folder) to the Trash and empty.

Restart the computer and re-enable iCloud Keychain.

C

Reset the System Management Controller.
