How long does an email stay in your inbox after you read it? I just had some important ones disappear` due to age?

Some email in my inbox, already read, but over 2 weeks old, disappeared & I really needed it! How long do messages stay in the inbox & is there anything I can do to get these messages back?

You get "mail days to sync" by setting up your account as IMAP if that is available. But you didn't say who the email provider is. Who is it, Yahoo? AOL? What company? And your computer just doesn't "decide" to delete email messages, that doesn't just happen on its own. Are they in the trash folder? You need to figure out exactly what's going on with your provider. You may want to delete the account from your phone and re-set it up as IMAP if you can so that it won't remove the messages from the server.

Ugh, see that's part of the problem: my computer decided to erase my whole inbox (over 100 messages)- there were actually more messages in my phone than on my computer. Now, what's showing when logging in to my webmail on the provider's site is exactly what's in my phone.

I am guessing that those important messages in my email box have disappeared due to time, & I can't retrieve them?

How do I get to "Mail Days To Sync?" I went to settings/mail,contacts,calendars/tapped my email addy (under accounts), but there is nothing saying "Mail Days to Sync."
