ADATA not mounting or showing up in disk utility after X El Capitan update

My external hard drive ADATA superior SHO2 is not mounting or showing up in disk utility but the light blinks. Please help! What can I do?

If you are connecting it with a single data cable, can you either hear or feel the drive repeatedly spinning up, maybe making a repeated clicking noise?

If so, it is not getting enough power. If you still have the Y-cable that came with it, use that cable. Connect both plugs that are on the same end to two USB ports. One will provide power and the other will push data. Those USB-powered drives sometimes over-draw current for the ports and shuts them down.

Those drives tend to either wear out or are not built to the proper specs and over-drive the USB port.

When you say nothing happens, have you opened the Computer view in Finder? Go menu, select Computer.

Is it there?

Defaults for displaying hard drives were altered with El Capitan if i remember correctly.

If it doesn't appear there, how is it formatted?

If NTFS, then all of the driver software that allows you to write to NTFS is broken and needs updating. I don't think that would prevent you from seeing the drive, but I don't know that for sure.

When I plug the Y cord into my laptop it does not show up on my computer anywhere. I have no clue how my ADATA is formatted. All I know is it worked before the upgrade to X El Capitan and after the upgrade my laptop does not recognize it. I have tons of pictures, music, and documents on the ADATA. I also used it as a time machine on my laptop and now all it does is blink once I plug it in.
