iPhoto 9.4.3 crashes opening info panel

I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5. My iPhoto version is 9.4.3. It crashes right after opening if the info panel is open, or if the info panel is closed, right after I open the info panel. Below is a partial capture of the crash report.

I checked my disk with Disk Utility, it is fine. I have 265 Gb of space on my hard drive.

I have booted into Safe Mode. iPhoto started with the info panel closed, and did not crash right away, It crashed as soon as I opened the info panel.

Back in normal boot mode, I threw away com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Same result as above.

I went through the four steps of repairing, and then finally rebuilding, my old photo library. Same result.

I created a brand new photo library. Opened the info panel, it crashed. This is on a completely empty library.

So, it appears not to be related to my library or my preferences. I've used iPhoto for years without this happening. The only thing I noticed out of the ordinary is that for the last few weeks, the Places pane would show a location (like "San Diego") but not the map. The only thing I've installed recently was ExifTool.

Any ideas on getting iPhoto back to working? Reinstall the app from a Time Machine backup?

Jeff

There have been quite a few similar reports today:

Does iPhoto crash right after opening, when you open the Info panel?

Then have a look at this discussion. There are several similar reports on iPhoto 9.4.3 crashing on Mt. Lion.

iPhoto crashes after opening repeatedlyyhttps://discussions.apple.com/thread/7342656

It seems to be problem with the Places view and the Google maps that are no longer supported.

I've had all sorts of similar problems, however, I read in another post that someone had disconnected their internet connection: I tried that just now and iPhoto did not crash. So, whatever is making it crash, clearly it is through the internet and likely then, something to do with the way places work, as was suggested, Google.

If you look at Huxly647's solution:

Re: iPhoto crashes after opening repeatedlyin response to carvermonHelpful

I found a fix that works for me..

1. goto /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources

2. delete the files ' googlemap.html ' and googlesearch.html

Iphoto no longer crashes, places doesn't work but it doesn't bother me too much.

Let me know if it works for you guys...

Removing the two files ' googlemap.html ' and googlesearch.html from iPhoto's application bundle prevents the javascript inside from being executed and causing the crash. Going offline does obviously do the same. So it is pretty clear, that something happened on Google's end.
