Photoshop Elements 11 "damaged"

Hi.

Can anyone help me with this please?

I've been using Photoshop Elements 11 for a couple of years or so, with no problems. A few days ago, when I tried to open it, I got the error message "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor.app is damaged and can't be opened. Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor.app and download it again from the App store."

I did this- twice. I still see the same message when I try to open Photoshop.

I checked the soft are update option, and there are no available updates for my version of Photoshop.

I use Photoshop all the time for production of leaflets and fliers, etc. This problem is seriously inconveniencing me, and the official Apple support team have not replied to my query. Can anyone on here tell me what I should do?

Thanks,

Mark.

  • Open Finder and navigate to /Applications/ Utilities/Adobe Installers.

  • Start the Uninstaller for Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Premiere Elements.

  • If you're not planning on reinstalling the application, select Remove Preferences. Otherwise, do not select this option..

  • Click Uninstall.

Are the directions from Adobe's website.

Did you get the application on a disk? Did you download it from Adobe, App Store or some other source?

complete removal of the app would need to be performed but the integrity of the installer is what's in question. Can you or did you re-download the installer? Are you running any 3rd party cleaning or AV tools on your mac (if so remove them)

what trouble shooting steps have you tried at this time?

I have been a PShop user for 2 decades... I have never had the need to visit the AdobeForums, but I understand it is manned by users just like ASC - possible participation by Adobe employees but I have no data. Adobe Real Person support may not be forthcoming depending on whether they have discontinued support for the version - just like Apple and most other developers. AdobeForum smart folks may be your best bet if our friend Jimmy's (very good) advice brings no joy.

Regarding Adobe "Installers" - Jimmy's description indicates that Adobe may have gone 'above and beyond' OS X standards - i.e., providing the ability to fully 'clean up' all vestiges of the product where MOST of the app can be simply Trashed from the application folder

(a properly written OS X App is really a "container" with mucho invisible supporting files- prefs and such would leave only small filesize remnants that would not have any impact on your Mac, if you were to NOT reinstall)

All that said, it is very possible that one or more of the 'outside the container' files is the culprit - OR - some aspect of your Mac User Account is responsible... to test the latter, you can create a New Admin Account and see if things clear up. If that brings joy, let us know.

Hi. Yes, I re-downloaded the installer. I use MacKeeper, and I suppose I could uninstall it then re-install later, but I'd rather not. I'll follow the other advice I've been given first, but thanks for this.

You need to remove MacKeeper, post haste...

Thanks. The strange thing is that I used Photoshop for a long time after upgrading to Mavericks. On the Adobe forum there are several posts from people who have experienced the same problem at about the same time as I did. I'll try what you suggest- thanks again.

Mark.

I failed to ask the question I usually do = "What event immediately preceded the onset of the misbehavior?"

Could it be that you installed something? MacKeeper, perhaps? Something else?

What did the AdobeForumFolk say about resolution?

If I were you, before I did another thing, I would remove MacKeeper - it is a bane to Macintosh in more ways than one.

Hello, a similar issue happened to me on Nov 17, 2015. I purchased Photoshop Elements 12 in August of 2014 via iTunes. When I tried opening the product on Nov 17, I got the error message "Photoshop Elements Editor quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically." Clicking on Reopen simply generates this same message repeatedly. I do not recall that I had changed anything on the computer recently. Eventually I figured out that most of my apps that were not produced by Apple wouldn't open. Since then, I have tried various things, including restoring my computer to a backup from August. The end result of that was corruption of my operating system, which is now El Capitan. (That did help restore most of the other apps that were not working) I have read previous comments to get ideas. I do not have MacKeeper installed, as some have suggested removing it. Any ideas on where to turn? I think it's a problem with Apple, as it is an apple error report. Thanks for any help.
