After updating to Pages 5.5, documents created on previous version won't open

After I updated to Page 5.5, I am unable to open documents created with the previous version.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

The term previous version takes in considerable territory. What is the dialog that you receive from Pages v5.5? If it is a Pages document, will it open in Preview?

Could that document be one of the following?

AppleWorks
Pages '06
Pages '08
Pages '09
Pages v5 thru v5.2.2 on Mavericks

Thanks for responding. By previous I mean Page 09. When I try to open the file, the dialogue box just says this file can't be opened.

Sounds like they are not Pages '09 but are Pages '08 or previous.

If you update to Pages 5.6.1 it will open older versions.

Alternatively you can just use Pages '09 which should still be in your Applications/iWork folder if you had it before.
