Sounds like a failing or failed GPU. Take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider to be professionally diagnosed. Once you have the info, you can decide what to do. AASP Locator

Is there any other quicker way to temperary salvage it?
If you have an external display you can connect it and see if the problem is present on that display. If it is then you confirmed it is the GPU and it cannot be salvaged. If it works okay on the external display then you just diagnosed it is the iMacs main display and can continue using the computer until you get it fixed or replaced.
Displays on my iMac is extremely weird. The whole screen is purple or blue occasionally at the startups. Can anyone help?
