How do I release my phone number form iMessage & the cloud so I can receive texts from all iPhones?

There must be something I'm missing. Surely apple has figured out this bug! I don't know when I don't receive texts & the people sending them don't know I'm not receiving them... it's awful!

Yes, sorry. The sender doesn't receive any notification that the text isn't going through so I look like I'm just not responding. (In group texts - I think they receive notice notice if it's one-to-one. The problem had to do with me switching from an iPhone back to an android. From what I've read, Verizon should've instructed me to turn off i-message before removing my sim card.

I have done all of the steps already! I confirmed that my number was deregistered a couple of weeks ago - it already was. I've followed every step that Apple prescribes to fix this problem, but they haven't worked: I've confirmed that my number isn't anywhere else in icloud, I've changed my password for icloud, I've reset to factory settings on my android, I've texted STOP to the icloud support number. BTW, when I retested after going through the steps, the problem was worse. I'm testing with a small group text to my two people. Before, I received responses from one of them in the group, but after the "fix,", I received neither of their responses in the group text.
