set up 2012 airport express base station

I have a 2012 Airport Express. I had my main imac computer "wiped" to remove something so am starting from scratch. It is connected to my main airport utility. my question is: How do I reconnect my airport express so I get wifi when using my macbook laptop in a remote part of my house again? Do I need to download an older application for this Airport Express 802.11n Wi-Fi? through itunes? Thank you for any help.

You do not need old application (v5 airport utility will be fine as will v6) for any N wireless airport.

You should factory reset the Airport Express and redo the setup.

You need to setup the express by ethernet to extend by wire.. which means it creates a wireless network of the same name as the main router.

Or you extend by wireless.. which means you must have an existing apple wireless router.. extend wireless in apple routers is proprietary setup.

Tell us what your main router is.. or if you have an airport which model and we can give further instructions.
