Pages over Office for new iMac?

After getting a new iMac, I found that my old office:mac software will not work on the new iMac with El Capitan.

I can't get an upgrade discount from office:mac to the newest office version, so I would like to try Pages.

All I really need to do is use Pages to update existing docx Word files (and save them as pages files).

And then save them back to Word - from time to time - so I can work on them at work when I have free time.

Is there any reason why Pages would not do well in this situation?

Thanks.

Mac

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Yes. Converting .docx to .pages and then back to .docx could generate a huge amount of extra work for you correcting formatting and other changes.

Get Word or use the free clone LibreOffice.

Pages is really not suitable for serious business or academic use when the people judging your work are using Word.
