Removing photos from iPod to PC

I have an iPod with almost 60 GB of photos and videos on it. All of the photos from my previous iPod were automatically(?) put on it when I first connected it to my PC. I see no options for removing the photos to free up space. I have tried for months and now it's full and can't update any apps or the iOS. The only option I seem to have is deleting individual photos (Of more than 16,000) to free up space. I have tried to follow the procedures for moving photos off with a PC using Windows 7 but it doesn't work. Photos on my iPod don't even appear as an option in iTunes. It gives me the option to move MORE ****** photos from my PC to my iPod but not the other way around.
