How do I access my info from a broken Mac book Pro

My Macbook Pro has a black screen. But it does turn on. How do I get the info off of it onto a new computer??

okay-I guess you've tried the usual fixes

zapping the pram

resetting the SMC-shut computer down, plus in power adapter, on left side of keyboard hold down shift, option, control and power buttons, hold 'em for 30 sec

then release and press power button

you've done all that, correct?--in that case, see if there's a firewire port on it (don't know the age or model of your Macbook Pro) or you may need a thunderbolt to firewire adapter, connect it to another mac. hold down the "T" key to start it up in target mode. The first Mac will appear on the desktop of the other one as a hard drive icon, and from there you can get your info. I'd ask if you did a backup beforehand, but something tells me "no". If you had a hard drive, you could open up your Macbook pro, remove it and put it in an external enclosure and plug into another mac. If you have a more modern Mac with an SSD in there, well, I don't know...I'd say make an appointment at your local Genius bar and take it in and let them do the work. Of course it won't be free....
