Can I connect an external hard drive to my i-pad air? No wi-fi or cellular signal is available.

I would like to watch videos on my I-pad in my workshop where there is no wi-fi or cellular signal. Is there any way to connect an external hard drive to accomplish this? Perhaps there is another way to achieve this?

There is no way to hardwire a harddrive (and really the ipad doesn't have the file explorer hardware to access files)

you could look for devices such as the Kingston WiDrive, which is a drive that is also its own portable wifi hotspot and drive.

There are other ones by other manufacturers but something like this may work for you since it has an app to stream and since it makes its own wifi signal you don't need to have an existing wifi hotspot

Another option is a wireless filehub. I have this one and it works great:

It is like the Kingston WiDrive in that it creates its own network but has the advantage of being able to host any USB storage device and make it available to whatever is connected to the WiFi signal. I stream video from it, copy files to/from it, etc. And it supports pass-through for other available wireless networks so you can connect to the Internet through the filehub if another network is available.
