Toolbar has randomly disappeared...how do I return visibility?

While online, my connection reset itself, and suddenly two things were different:

1. The browser toolbar is no longer visible or accessible, (Finder toolbar is still visible). This is true for both Firefox or Safari. (I use FF).

2. History is now behaving strangely:

  • It will only open in a non-adjustable full screen,
  • there is NO close button or minimize button,
  • I am unable to grab edges or corners to minimize manually and there is no toolbar at all as mentioned above.

There is no way to close History or minimize it aside from shutting down! I performed First Aid and restarted but the problem remains. What could be going on and how do I restore functionality? Thank you so much for any help!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), null
