You did more than "accidentally hit restore", as once you hit the restore button, other prompts appear before actually performing the restore. So you actually hit at least two (and probably more) buttons to actually activate the restore.

Restore erases the iPhone. Objects placed on the iPhone after the restored backup are gone.

Before the phone was plugged in, it may be backed up with iCloud. So you may try to extract your iCloud backup to check if there is your contacts and pictures.
