Can't boot into windows after resizing partitions

From my 5 hours of experience with the gdisk commands, etc, rebuilding your MBR is, if done correctly like the tutorials say step by step, sorta safe. Don't take my word for it at all, but I had no problems. Then again, I don't really have any experience at all. Please allow someone else to answer this as well.

You have El Capitan, so we need to disable SIP.

1. Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R).

2. Start Utilities -> Terminal.

3. Type csrutil disable in Terminal and press Enter/Return.

4. Type csrutil status.

5. Boot normally, and type csrutil status to confirm that all individual entries are still disabled.

Please ignore the i386 MBR error message, but not any others, in the following steps.

Hello. I have a very similar issue. These are the dump reports of my disk. Is it safe to do what's described in this thread?

Backstory: I had a mavericks partition and a win7 bootcamp partition.

After upgrading to El Capitan, the bootcamp partition would show the "NO BOOTABLE DEVICE" screen.

I erased and resized the OSX partition, shrinking it to 250GB. This created a new Untitled partition. At this point i reinstalled El Capitan on the 250GB partition, and the bootcamp partition disappeared from the alt boot menu altogether.

In the end I will have to unite the Untitled and windows partitions, but for now i just need to boot into windows again.

What is the version of Windows? What year/model is your Mac?

Windows 7 64-bit... probably the Professional version..? I am not really sure. Is there a way to find out what version it is? The mac is a macbookpro6,2 from mid-2010.

EDIT: It's actually Windows 7 Ultimate. Is this the information you were looking for, though?

The following steps are non-standard because there is a third user-visible partition. Typically, there are two such partitions in a normal configuration on a single-disk Mac with OS X and Bootcamp. This is fragile and lack of proper backups can lead to potential data loss. Download GPT Fdisk from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ and install it on the OS X side. The following steps are executed when booted in OS X. If the 83.1G is converted to Free Space, these numbers (3 4 5) will change back to (2 3 4).

El Capitan requires disabling SIP to manipulate partitions. This will not work if you boot into Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R), but only works in Local Recovery (Command+R).

1. Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R).

2. Start Utilities -> Terminal.

3. Type csrutil disable in Terminal and press Enter/Return.

4. Type csrutil status.

5. Boot normally, and type csrutil status to confirm that all individual entries are still disabled.

Once SIP is disabled, rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 10. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers. Please see thesample Q&A as an example. These steps can be repeated if you make a mistake before you get to Step 12, otherwise start from Step 1 for these steps. Step 6 has numbers which are typed with a space between the numbers. Please see the sample Q&A before you execute these steps.

4. O (print current Hybrid MBR)
5. H (chooses Hybrid)
6. Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 3 4 5
7. Y (Good for GRUB question)

You've been so helpful, Loner T! But before doing what you described, would it be better if i removed the Untitled partition? I mean, i've never really wished for it to exist. It just kind of appeared when I shrunk the original osx partition. In the end i'd like to end up with a single, bigger boot camp partition. I've read about the possibility to convert the thing to Free Space, but i can't seem to find a way to do that. Shouldn't it be in disk utility?

What I mean is: if I do these things, will it make it harder for me to make a bootcamp partition from scratch, at a later date?
and also, while i'm at it, is there a way to "merge" the Untitled and BOOTCAMP partitions?

El Capitan DU is a real pain. You can can use OSX Terminal and convert GPT4 to Free Spaces and use Gparted to absorb it and repair Windows. If you do not run into any issues, then you will have a standard configuration and can use the same steps and use 2 3 4 instead of 3 4 5 and it should behave better.
