Pacifist software stopping Time Machine recovery

Hi

I have a 2009 Macbook upgraded to El Capitan .

When I try to recover a file from Time Machine i get a message from Pacifist , saying I need to register to continue .

I have not consciously loaded this software , and cannot delete it , as it does not appear in any directory ,

Howdy I get rid of it , or is it safe to register?

Regards

Can you most more details on the message allegedly from Pacifist?

The demo version of the CharlesSoft software would run free...

But, you would have to download it yourself. Could be some other

software is trying to spoof the Pacifist name to get you to load it.

Never seen the problem and I've used several versions of Pacifist.

And I get software from official sites and not softonic, etc.

Perhaps someone will post and offer lengthy advice that will show

you a list of things running in the computer, that may point to what

the item is you are seeing; and maybe offer to tell you its location.

Maybe you could see if the Etrecheck report may yield clues?

I don't use it, but it has helped in some cases to show system info.

Can't say as I've encountered the message you state about Pacifist.

There are several things about Time Machine and OS X recovery

that may be worth looking into; sorry to not be of much help here.

Good luck in this matter! 🙂

open your applications folder

put the pacifist folder in the trash

go to Macintosh HD (or whatever you named it)/Library/Launch Agents

remove anything named charlessoft or pacifist.

go to >System Preferences...>Users and Groups

select your account

click the login items tab

remove anything named charlessoft or pacifist.

REBOOT

go to the GO menu in the finder

hold down the option key

go to Library

remove the pacfiist folders from

/Library

/Library/Application Support

and put them in the trash.

go to Macintosh HD (or whatever you named it)/System/Extension

remove any pacifist bundles and ktext files in that folder

if that does not work contact the developer and ask for instructions on how to do this
