I have a short 4 second clip I need to blur, I drag and drop the gaussian effect onto the clip and nothing. It won't blur and
have no idea what to do next. Thank you

Thanks for replying.
Nope it allows me to drag the effect onto the clip, a green plus icon is on the effect.
In the Video inspector it shows the gaussian blur settings, it;;s clicked on but when I try to
adjust settings, the clips remains untouched by the effect.
I'm not sure if this is because I've set up the project as 720

to delete unwanted effects, follow advice I've given before/above:
just click into the grey matter aside the word Gaussian and hit the backspace/delete key...
And: have a break; cup of tea/coffee/beer, a walk around the house, some silly gfame play with your kids.... then back to project.
You have a bunch of other effects applied and switched off. Are any of them working? Try relaunching the application hold Opt-Cmd to reset preferences. If that doesn't work you might need to reinstall the application.

I have tried re-booting and does nothing. Very annoying indeed. I might try and call Apple and see if I can't
get an expert as I need them to sort it really thanks again for all your help. jeff
aside stapling Gaussian blur three times*, I notice keyframing for the actual effect.. maybe there's some hickup?
Open the Video Animation Editor and post a screenshot of that .........
* I would 'clean' that: clcik anywhere in the grey bar of Gaussian and hit backspace/delete
I went crazy and was getting frustrated so kept dragging the Guass blur effect over but I can't delete them now!!? It just keep adding them. Ok -let me open the Vid Animation editor - will send a screen shot thanks
Thanks Karsten - the back space works!! having a coffee and calm down now - bloody computers. Normally FCP is fine.
Still can't get the clip to blur- I'll try and do it Motion 5 and then import as blurred. thanks again.

Have you tried deleting project render files (from the File menu).

Found it!!! asin the Video animation thingy
DDoes the effect bounce back when you drag it? What do you see in the video inspector?
you can apply Effects only to clips in a Project, not in the Event browser.
… just to mention that …
OK thanks for that - I'm pretty sure the clip is in the project.
It's a small clip that sits above my main video clip
