Can't Get Anywhere on my Computer!! I have Finals in a Week!!!

Hey I can't get into my computer anymore. I've tried to log back in through safe mode, but underneath my ID it says Update Needed. I then tried to proceed into the guest account to try to figure things out but all I had available was Safari. Now I've tried hard rebooting my Mac but I don't have any of my files backed up. Is there any way I can restart my computer from a previous time before I had all these crashes and problems? Or am I completely out of luck! Someone please help

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

The pic that you showed me is correct. Wheel is what used to be admin. on older systems. Did you run disk utilities from the new external boot drive to check the internal drive? If that is what you meant by Mac HD cannot be repaired, then you will need to get your file off of it and onto the external drive. Then you will has to go in and erase the internal drive and reinstall. I would, on the internal drive erase the main drive not just the indented volume. Set it up just as you ddid the external. Then you can transfer you file back. What ever you can download and install,i would do, rather then transferring back. Things like Itunes and Iphoto library I would transfer. You can pick and choose what files to transfer. http://www.icreatemagazine.com/tips/how-to-move-files-and-data-to-a-new-mac-with -migr

Sorry I took so long to answer. I had to do an os install on my external hard drive to check out how to use migration assistant. So here it what I have. First the user name on the external boot drive cannot be the same as it is on the internal drive or it will not work. Now first go open the internal drive to utilities and migration assistant. And click continue. then check to another mac. Inter password for internal drive . Open utilities- migration assistant in external drive. Click continue and check time machine and other drives. Inter password. I had to do it twice. It will calculate the size. Then you can select what to transfer. You will be asked for the user name of the external drive. You will not want to transfer system or application files unless you have something in applications you want. You will not need settings. You can transfer you home users files or pick thru some of them. Hope this helps. Remember if it's something you can replace by re-downloading or reinstalling , don't copy it. If you have copies of apps in the old download folder then just copy that .
