Message icon disappeared
Message "app" icon disappeared. Where do I find this? Horrible not being able to text

This sounds like a software glitch, have you tried rebooting the iPhone? Press and hold the Power + Home buttons until the screen goes black, then turn it back on again.
If rebooting the iPhone doesn't solve the issue, you can try this. Are you able to search for the Messages app in spotlight? If not, you may want to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout. This will bring all the icons on the home screen back to their original spot and should restore the messaging app icon.
