Watching something in English in Germany

I've just spent an hour trying to change the language on my rented film on my new Apple TV. I am English and live in Germany. I have a German iTunes account and my billing address is in Germany. So, why is it so difficult that I can't change the language on my downloaded (English!) film from German to English? The whole point of me buying the Apple TV is that I can watch something and choose which language I want it in. Jeepers, I could have simply carried on buying DVD's. Yes, I understand there may be tax/copyright issues buying something from another country (although I never have these issues with Amazon) but language?

When playing the movie, swipe down and switch the audio (or subtitle) to the desired language of course that is always dependent on the film being available in multiple languages in your area. I am not sure if there is a way to change the default language as I believe it feeds off of the iTunes geographic location...
