Q: iTunes 12.3.1.23 video playback not working

I recently updates to OSX Yosemite 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.3.1.23 on my MacBook.  My iTunes will now play songs, but video playback for TV shows/movies I've purchased through the iTunes store is not working.  The video player remains black, and there is no sound.  The files have been downloaded to my MacBook, and are not playing through iCloud.  Thoughts or suggestions?

I've tried closing iTunes and restarting the computer.

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), iTunes 12.3.1.23

I have also tried changing my video playback preference to 720p from 1080p, as was suggested in another thread.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue.  Hopefully Apple fixes this sometime soon.

Same issue here.  After applying Security Update 2015-008 no video playback of iTunes purchased videos.

Hopefully Apple can remedy this quickly.

I have similar issue. Last night I updated the OS to Yosemite 10.10.5 plus the security update.  This morning, iTunes will play music, but no TV Shows or Movies.  So frustrating.  My iTunes version is 12.3.1.23

Same problem for me also.  I should never update right away even if it's a "security update".  Come on Apple we need a fix.........................

Same issue. iTunes 12.3.1.23 was fine until the latest security update 2015-005 on OS X 10.10.5

Same here. I can watch music videos in my music library, but no purchased movies or tv shows. Just a black screen.

I don't like doing "me too" posts when there is the "I have this question too" option, but there have been many posts on this topic and this is by far the most helpful for Apple tech to use in diagnostics because it include console output, so just doing this to bump it up to the top.  Please don't start more threads, let's consolidate this more helpful one!

    Oh boy...

At first, I wanted to write a post containing just two words "me too" but I mean, come on... So many people are having an exactly same problem for a couple of days already and there's been zero reaction from Apple whatsoever?

Well, get used to it. As long as you, Apple-lovers, continue to tolerate this kind of service, nothing is going to change.

Just to make sure everyone understands why it's reasonable to be angry about this situation... We're not talking about a mass-free product here. This isn't a kind of problem when a 12 years old girl can't log into Facebook or watch the latest cute cats video on YouTube and the world crashes for her. We're talking about the situation when people can't access something they paid money for.

The least Apple could do would be just to let people know they acknowledge the fact there is a problem (doesn't matter what it is, a screwed 2015-005 security update or iTunes servers problem) and they are trying to resolve it, by pushing them a message or something.

I'm pi**** off. You should be too.

I just can't believe how Apple can ignore that problem without even trying to acknowledge it. I need to watch TV shows that I purchased on ITunes, I need that FOR MY WORK. I haven't been able to do so since the upgrade I did yesterday. This is a crisis for me. FIX THIS NOW or send me money to compensate for every hours lost of screening and work.

    Hi all,

This is definitely caused by 2015-005. I have several 10.10.5 computers. The ones that have the 2015-005 installed don't play my store-bought movies in iTunes any more. El Capitan computers have no problems with the same content. It has been a couple of days now and Apple says nothing.
What is this Apple, is this how you are forcing people to go to El Capitan????

And nowhere any information on how to uninstall 2015-005. Ridiculous.

    ps

I also tried playing the content in QuickTime, but the result was the same black screen.

The only way I found to fix the problems on my Macbook Air was to reinstall OS X.  Now iTunes is back to normal and I can play all my TV shows and Movies.  Now I'm not saying this will work for everyone but it did work for me.  I like others need iTunes to show movies in my classroom so I couldn't wait for Apple to get around to helping us.  Has anyone even heard anything from Apple?  I did notice that now they have a Safari update which now I'm not willing to install because I'm afraid of issues that may arise.
