After installing the combo update for OS X 10.11.2, the App Store offers the OS X El Capitan Recovery Update 1.0, which seems designed for beta testers to install before installing El Capitan. I suppose I should ignore the prompt, but why am I getting it?

Thanks mate. Solved the issue for me too.
When I use the Go To Folder item under Go and type in private/var/folders in the text box I get "the folder can't be found."
then I downloaded show hidden files but the same thing happened.

The initial slash. You put in a relative address, so it started looking from your current home folder.
The first slash says start at root of hard drive,
/private/var/folders
Also, /var/folders will work as there is a link set up mapping /private/var to /var.

It worked a treat. That / at the front made all the difference, if Eau Rouge had put it there on his original post it would have been more useful.
