iTunes match is automatically downloading songs to phone

iTunes match is automatically downloading all songs to my iPhone once they have been matched/uploaded. I don't see any settings to stop this and only download specified tracks. Any ideas?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.0.2

I found this site a couple of days ago and it worked for me. Hope it helps you people to. Not sure if it is already mentioned, but here it is:

http://www.mcelhearn.com/icloud-music-library-automatically-downloading-new-musi c-to-ios-devices/

I signed up for iTunes Match for the first time yesterday since I noticed they recently increased the song limit to 100,000. Once I enabled it on my iPhone I noticed it was automatically downloaded all my songs, which I was instantly confused about seeing as I know iTunes Match should be streaming my songs. In the hunt for finding a solution I came across some support forums about this issue and then stumbled upon your blog post. I think I got it fixed and wanted to share incase this helps others.

What didn’t work:
– Disabled “iCloud Music Library” via Settings > Music

Temporary Solution:
– Disabled “Use Cellular Data to Streaming & Downloads” via Settings > Music
– Turn off Wifi

Permanent Solution (so far at least but not sure which step below actually did it):
– Opened iTunes and Clicked on Store > View Account
– Under “iTunes in the Cloud” I clicked “Manage Devices”
– Found my iPhone and clicked “Remove iPhone”
– Returned to Music App on my iPhone
– It prompted me to sign back into iTunes and I declined (for now)
– It still said “Downloading 626 songs” and I tapped on that message
– I saw a list of songs trying to download but they seemed paused (probably since I wasn’t logged in)
– I scrolled to the bottom of the list and saw a link to “Cancel all downloads” (or something like that)
– I tapped the link and everything stopped.

Things I tested to make sure it was fixed:
– I waited awhile to see if it started back up but no more downloading was occurring.
– So I enabled “iCloud Music Library” again and still nothing was downloading
– So then opened up Music app again and I signed back into my iTunes Account and still nothing was downloading
– It reconnected my iTunes Match Library and everything was there and nothing started downloading
– I added a new album to my iTunes Library on my computer and it added to iTunes Match on my phone (able to stream it) without downloading anything.

So (knock-on wood) I think it’s fixed!

Hope this helps others!

I have a scary story. For whatever reason my iPhone 6 Plus began this downloading music problem everyone is having. My elderly husband I were at the Indy 500 this year with some other people. We were not organized about getting back to our car, .... and my phone was dead because IT, not me, was trying to download a world full of songs, in an area where 250,0000 people are using the cellular networks, I was unable to get my husband who can only walk very slowly and not too far, safely out of the heat and in a place where he could rest. So what happened? Luckily a hero helped. Her name was Sergeant McDuffy. She noticed my husband was not well and put him in her car with water and cooled him off. She somehow got a hotspot in there and charged my phone, so we could call our other people and find our car. Now I was mad! I wanted to blame someone. But who? Our people? They did their best. Myself? I have to. But now I want to blame Apple, lol. Still my fault for not planning properly, I should have had a backup plan. What a hassle. He almost ended up in the Hospital. We would have had to turn our vacation into an extended hospital stay in a state that was not home. I got angry and reset my phone that night. I then synced it with iTunes overnight. I hope that problem is over but I don't really know. I had the same problem a few years back without the parking scenario.

Had this happen to me recently (June 2016) running iOS 9.3.x, so it's still an issue.

I *THINK* I may have finally stumbled on a fix.

If you're stuck in the download loop, turn on Airplane Mode, then hit the Cancel Download command.

The list should clear.

Now --- it may start again when you disable Airplane Mode, only with a shorter song count. Turn on Airplane Mode again and hit cancel again.

Do this two or three times until the list shrinks to zero.

Also had this happen to me this week. The remaining 3GB free space on my phone was completely filled, rendering my phone useless. If I didn't have a big data plan I would be ****** — the downloading happened over cellular. My phone was overheating and battery completely depleted.

Apple phone support advised to wipe all music from the phone and update to iOS 10 — didn't help at all, downloading still persisted even with Automatic Downloads disabled.

I even turned off iCloud Music Library which started this mess in the first place, that didn't stop the downloading either!

I had to disable wifi to make the download finally stop. NOT a solution.

Still waiting for a proper fix to this ridiculous issue.

Hi,

I found a solution for me.

Since on the ipads everything worked fine. I figured out, that the difference was, that , when enabling the "icloud Music library" on the two ipads i chose "replace all Music" . On my i Iphone however i chose "keep the music"

So i turned off icloud Music library on my iphone and than deleted all music (settings-> memory&icloud-> manage memory(storage). i cheked if there was no music left.

After that i turned on i.M.Lib. on my iphone again and after a while i saw my whole icloud library but no music was available offline yet.

For the purpose of testing i added an album to itunes and it showed up on my iPhone but WASN'T downloadet.

(finally i downloaded my "iphone- Playlist" to my device to have my favorite Music available offline again. I always keep a playlist with all music i want on my iPhone, so i can restore it in cases like this)
