ios 9.2 battery drain (iPhone 6)

Even on battery saver mode with all background apps turned off *something* was running in the background eating my battery.

Yeah, i dou't that's gonna help.

Its been 9 hours since my last charge, i had one call and checked facebook a few times and im down to 50%.

With 9.1 my battery would be like 92% by the end of the day with a lot more usage than today.

I am having the same problem. Apple is just pathetic sometimes. I refuse to believe a multibillion dollar company can't do a proper QA before releasing a software update.

Judging by this sorry move, and by releasing a battery case for iPhone 6/6s, I predict a battery breakthrough will happen with iPhone 7... because Apple likes to make users of old devices look like they NEED to update no matter what.

I'm curious about something and only because someone on the thread pointed at Verizon Wireless...

For those of you that are experiencing "extreme data usage"...how many of you have VZ Wireless, and if so, how many when you check the Settings---> General--->About, show carrier Verizon 23.0 vs 23.1?

Just forget about carriers and phone config. I am in BRAZIL in a totally different carrier, and I'm having this issue. This is an iOS (Apple) issue, not an user's issue.

Possibly, but there are some threads about the new carrier update (which accompanied this release) that is making some user's phones not work. VZWireless has a 5 page thread on it already. The other common aspects appear to be tied to Apple Music and maybe GPS..

I drive a lot of miles daily, and as such stream music and use my GPS extensively. I have made no changes to the apps, just the iOS update, so I thought I would explore the "commonality" between myself and others who were experiencing this.

Same problem. I updated overnight and woke up with my phone burning hot. Can't be more than 10 mins away from a charger and when it's plugged in it quickly overheats. I've been unsuccessful with attempts to downgrade, my window may have passed.

This is very frustrating as it's rendered my phone basically unusable. Really need Apple to fix this quick

Both my wife and I have 6s, running on iOS 9.2. On 9.1, I'd get through the day with moderate use and still have 80% left. Now, 1 hour after unpluging from the charger and just lying on my desk more or less, the battery is down to 92%. Same issue with my wife's phone.

This is riddiculous.

I have an iphone 5 which now lasts about 15 mins before requiring a recharge since installing 9.2= useless! I do not qualify for the battery replacement program. Come on apple patch this now! All my cellular data is off except my phone and messages. Consumer affairs here I come!

I thought this as well since I had a carrier update once I rebooted (3 in the UK).

So... I updated my iPad mini 2. Sorry to say = bad idea.

Last night I unplugged my ipad at 100% @5pm. All background tasks turned off. Nothing running at all.

This morning I woke up to an ipad with 39% battery - of which the Battery screen shows as being used up by Home & Lock Screen. Obviously the screen wasn't on all night.

Next to this ipad is my trusty old ipad 3. This is currently showing that it's been idle for over 600 hours. This is not running 9.2 but otherwise exactly the same apps and settings.

I have the same problem, though I have a 5s model. The phone dies within a few hours and it's so warm that I'm afraid the HW is going to be damaged...

Update: I managed to downgrade and it completely fixed the problem. I reccomend you downgrade while you can and wait for Apple to release the next version.

Me too! Battery life has plummeted on my iPhone 6S as well as three iPads since installing 9.2. I have an appointment at the Genius Bar for my phone, at least to complain about it on-record. I used to easily get a full day out of it (5am-9pm) and still have 15-20% battery left most days, even making calls. Now- even without making any calls at all- I'm lucky to make to to 4pm. That's about 10%/hour. No changes in software or notifications, I've always had Background App Refresh turned off. I'm not using WiFi assist, and while two of the devices are on Verizon, two of them are WiFi only.

Just for more information, devices involved:

iPhone 6S (Verizon)

iPad Air (WiFi Only)
iPad Air 2 (Verizon)

iPad Pro (WiFi Only)

The iPads all drain fast even if the screens aren't turned on. 40-50% /day without even being used. I'm lucky to get a couple of hours out of them when I do use them. I thought it was a weird coincidence that all of them had failing batteries at the same time.

Also- since Verizon Data was implicated by some people (and may still be related)- these spend over 90% of their time on WiFi networks.

Had this issue as well, but after deleting phones iCloud backup and redoing it I'm back with similar battery life as before!

Like him I foundthat it's an iCloud backup related problem. Confirmed with ipad mini and iphone 6.

Re-wiped the phone and restored from backup = same problem. Re-wiped and setup as new device = battery as before.

(Luckily nowadays everything is stored in the cloud so wasn't really a problem - except for logging back in to all my apps)
