Since updating to IOS 9.1 my Iphone 4S frequently displays a popup warning from facetime and imessage
"Your carrier may charge for SMS messages used to activate iMessage"
I never used this feature and have no intension to. both facetime and imessage are deactivated but i keep getting this warnings.
How can I turn them off or disable the warnings its driving me nuts.

When you set up a phone it prompts for your iCloud ID and password. If you enter it the setup automatically logs you in to iCloud, iTunes & App Stores, iMessage, email, Game Center, and Facetime. So unless you never logged in to iCloud (which you need to do to enable Find my iPhone) you are logged in to Facetime. To check go to Settings/Facetime and turn it on. If you are logged in your iCloud ID will appear at the top of the display. If you are logged in tap on your ID and log out. You can be logged in even if it is turned off, and the only way to find out is to turn it on.

Thanks, but I think there's a simpler solution than that you mentioned. Thank you for cutting and pasting it again it really helps the readers using mobile phones fyi

Disable notification for FaceTime.
Can't upload other screenshots as this site won't allow photos larger than 2mb and iPhone has no way to compresss images - another Apple fail!

Thanks for doing the research, and publishing the helpful results. Activating it once is the part I was missing. I'll note for the future.
The one problem with your post is that Apple doesn't get any money from iMessage. It is a free service. And, if you are charged for the SMS, that goes to the carrier, not to Apple.
This is really annoying. I have never ever enabled neither iMessage nor Facetime, yet still I get these prompts regularly.
Then read the other messages in the thread you posted to. The solution has been posted several times.
The workaround (not solution) you posted is to activate, then de-activate it. But I do not want to activate it. I want Apple to fix this annoying behavior.
