How to shorten a dayname to 3 characters

I am using my MacPro, OS X ver. 10.11.2, Numbers ver 3.6.1.

In one row of my spreadsheet I have dates. Another row has the name of the day of the week based on the dates stored in the first row. I want the daynames to be shortened from "Sunday" to "Su" and so forth. How can I truncate the results?

Thanks

Mac Pro (Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), Numbers ver. 3.6.1

I would just use the simpler:

=LEFT(DAYNAME(B1),2)

You can get help on functions (in many languages) via your menu: Help > Formulas and Functions Help.

The entry for LEFT is here.

DAYNAME is here.
