I am using my MacPro, OS X ver. 10.11.2, Numbers ver 3.6.1.
In one row of my spreadsheet I have dates. Another row has the name of the day of the week based on the dates stored in the first row. I want the daynames to be shortened from "Sunday" to "Su" and so forth. How can I truncate the results?

Use the LEFT function.
=LEFT(DAYNAME(WEEKDAY(B2)),2)
I don't know a good source for learning spreadsheets. I learned by doing and I learn more by helping.
Yeah, that would be better. I don't use these date-time functions very often. I thought it needed a day number.
