SQL error

I cannot log into the forums in MacFixit with Safari. When I go to the home page, I am logged in. When I go to the forums, I get the following message

SQL ERROR: Unable to do_query: UPDATE w3t_Users SET U_SessionId = 'c064251d2c99adbee465c50f05bda944' WHERE U_Number =

and am logged out. I cannot log in. This only happens in Safari; I can use Firefox to log in and post. I cannot find any thing in Safari's preferences or in my network preferences about an SQL server. (In fact, I don't know anything about SQL servers, and have never installed one.)

This is a problem with safari only. Any suggestions as to what I can do to avoid this??

Thanks,
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

It's probably something specific to your MacFixit account details - the error is most definitely originating on their side.

Try clearing out your cookies via the Safari Preferences -> Security -> (Show Cookies) option. There's a chance they are performing a query based up some bad information stored in a cookie.

Also, try Safari in another user account if that makes no difference. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed).

Hi Nancy,

The errors are all coming from the MacFixit site, not your machine. They might be using some information about your browser to make a query that is failing (that might explain why Firefox works normally).

Try checking again tomorrow, if there's still a problem post on the MacFixit forums with Firefox about this issue.

Thanks for your response. This problem has existed for at least 2 weeks, and maybe a couple of months. (I did have a problem a couiple of months ago, and they told me it was fixed. I then went on a vacation and didn't have a chance to see if I indeed could log in.) I did post it on MacFixit (with Firefox) and got several suggestions, none of which helped. I also emailed MacFixit with the problem; they responded by saying that they could log in with my ID with no problem. (I assume that they just logged into the home page, which also works for me.) I answered with this, but they never replied.

Any other ideas? If it's the macfixit site's fault, why does no one else have the problem?
