"word wipe" locks up my Mac

I play the game "Word Wipe" which is among games on USA Today website. It has 50 levels. Around level 10 to 15 my Mac slows down so much and the cursor locks up and I cannot play. It is a timed game so I lose because I cannot get the cursor to make the moves I am trying to make.
