When scanning the services running on a network, intermittently a few devices display that on port 62078 the service http://code.google.com/p/iPhone-elite/... Is an active running service. None of these devices to my knowledge are jail broken. why Is "code.google.com/p/iphone-elite" running on the listen port?

IPhone-elite sites appear as rogue to Apple programming and code.google.com is unsupported by Google as of 2008.

I have monitored this activity for an extended period of time. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like some device is jailbroken. the problem is that "product" line was retired many years ago. So it's possible that a former device was jailbroken, and your current devices were restored from a backup that had been jailbroken. If that's a possibility the only solution is to restore iOS using DFU mode and set up as a new device, without restoring the backup.

i will study up on "using DFU mode" as I unfamiliar with what that means

will setting up the device as a new device allow for any possibility of saving any content? Or will all former content be lost?

In theory, if router traffic was "sniffed" or listened to - could a back-up be altered and pushed back to the device? (Computer or iPad/iPod/iPhone)

DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode uses the device equivalent of a BIOS to reload iOS from scratch, leaving no remnant of the previous iOS. Just restoring using iTunes actually uses the current iOS to install the replacement, so if it is corrupted the new one can be also. If you set up as a new device all content will be lost, except for content you have synced using iCloud. But all data will be lost if it isn't saved on a server.

If the router traffic was sniffed there is no risk to your backup. Normally, iOS requires that all apps use SSL to communicate, so a MITM exploit is not a threat. If malware was installed via a jailbreak at any time any apps installed from a source other than the Apple app store that could compromise the data on the phone. It's unlikely, but possible.

DFU mode:

  • Install the latest version of iTunes (12.3) on your computer if it isn't there already
  • Reboot your computer
  • Disable any antivirus and firewalls
  • Launch iTunes
  • Connect the device cable to a USB port on the computer (not to a USB hub), but DO NOT CONNECT TO THE DEVICE YET
  • Press and hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time for exactly 10 seconds, until the screen turns black, then release the SLEEP button but continue holding the HOME button. If an Apple logo appears while holding both buttons you held for too long; start over.
  • While still holding the HOME button connect the other end of the cable to the device
  • You should see a message in iTunes saying a phone in Recovery mode has been detected (it may take up to a minute for the message to appear). When you see that message release the HOME button and the device should restore. When asked DO NOT restore a backup; set up as a new phone.
