I was entering my Airport Express configuration to change the Radio Mode to 802.11g and I was surprised that Apple released a firmware update 7.6.7 (24 May 2016). Here is the info:

Firmware update 7.6.7 is recommended for all Apple 802.11n Wi-Fi base stations including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule. This update improves the stability and performance of your base station.

This update:

  • Fixes an issue which may prevent communication between clients on the same network
  • Improves performance with an extended guest network
  • Addresses potential naming conflicts with Bonjour Sleep Proxy

So, maybe our problems was not the MBP only but the Airport stations + El Capitan.

Back to the drawing board... 802.11n set and testing again.

Hello,

I I've been following this board for several months now, because ever since El Capitan I've had the same problems... Constant wifi drops..

The only solution i found that worked is what DS916 said.. To downgrade back to Yosemite! I did this yesterday and the Wifi works great again!! No drops no bad connection. It works better then before! It did suck that i didn't have a time machine backup of Yosemite but downgrading was definitely worth the trouble.

Hopefully there will be a fix in the future but for now i would recommend Yosemite!

Congrats @TheB113. Yeah, downgrading was the best decision in my opinion. Wifi works great now and no more countless hours of troubleshooting something Apple should be doing. As long as your only within a version or two of the latest OSX then life cant be too bad:) Future lesson me...always wait awhile before upgrading. Dont forget to make a time machine backup in case you run into the same problem again while upgrading to the next OSX:)

I read the latest comment and tried my luck with Sierra Public Beta 1 and found the same problem still exists.

I wish i could say it fixed it, however under heavy CPU/GPU loads the wifi would once again drop out.
Tested it while gaming online and while trying to download a larger file. Back to Yosemite for me.

Wifi problem since 10.11.2
