Can I retrieve music from a broken ipod?

Hello All,

So here's a shot in the dark. I purchased an ipod touch 1st generation when they first came out. One day while in the car my iTrip shorted it out and it no longer powers on. It been years but I found it in a box recently and remembered all the great music I had on it. The obvious question is "don't you have a backup of it on you PC or Mac?" And the answer is no. The laptop I had at the time has crashed as well along with all the files on its hard drive.
