Om symbol in Pages

I am considering switching from Neo Office to iWork. At this point, the only thing I can't find in Pages is the way to insert an Om symbol into a Pages document. So, is it possible to do this in Pages? A document in Word format from Neo Office has an Om symbol in it and it renders fine in Pages. I just don't see how I can insert the symbol without opening this document and copying from it and pasting into another. Thanks for any guidance!

You can insert the Devanagari and Gujarati Om symbols in a couple of ways.

  1. Direct input to Pages document via the Emojis & Symbols character panel

Edit menu : Emojis & Symbols

    1. See the gear icon in the upper left corner of the characters panel, and select Customize List…
    2. Click on South Asian Scripts
      1. Check Devanagari, Gujarati, and others as needed. These categories will be added to the panel.
    3. Search for Devanagari Om in the Emoji's & Symbols panel search window
    4. Double-click the Om character in the main panel display and it will be inserted into your open Pages document.
  2. Text Substitution
    1. System Preferences : Keyboard : Text
      1. Click plus sign to add Replace string

        d_om (arbitrary name)

      2. Tab over to With field

From Emojis & Symbols panel, search for Devanagari Om, and double-click its symbol to insert. Press return to set it.

      3. Repeat above steps if need Text Substitution for Gujarati, or others

    2. In Pages, set Edit menu : Substitutions : Text Replacement
    3. When you type the string d_om in Pages, a pop-up will appear, and any key press, or space bar will perform the substitution. If you don't want the substitition, then press the escape key, or click the x in the pop-up.
