WiFi Issues after 10.11.2 update.

Mid 2011 iMac. WiFi Issues after 10.11.2 update. Not network related. Everything was fine before update. All pre 10.11.2 device working fine. Any one else having issues??? I have to manually disconnect and reconnect. WiFi drops every 5 to 10 minutes. Nothing has changed on the machine other than the update.

please do not comment about the age of the system. Do realize a Mid 2011 is getting to the point of potential replacement. I have many other new macs in the house. The Mid 2011 is spec'd out with 16GB RAM, i7 and SSD. It's still very fast.

Thank you in advance for the reply...

Hi Captainsniz

There are a few things to try. Keep going until the problem disappears.

First, if you haven't already, shutdown the computer fully, wait about 1 minute and then restart.

Disconnect from the wifi network either via System Preferences or by holding down the "Option" key and clicking on the wifi Menu Bar icon.

Reset the DHCP lease by going to the System Preferences>Network and Show Advanced Options then click on the TCP/IP tab "Renew DHCP Lease" button.

You can delete the wifi network from System Preferences>Network>Network Name… then close out System Preferences. Then reopen and add the Network back in.

You can also reboot your wifi router, this clears out old connections. Most routers you just turn them off and wait a couple of minutes and then restart. You may also want to reset your ISP modem if you have one.

Finally, you can try resetting the PRAM and SMC on your Mac. I'll let you get that info from here on Apple Support KBs for your particular Mac.

Make sure to back up your computer.

Hope this helps, Greg

What does Wireless Diagnostics show?

Wireless Diagnostics

Wi-FI connection drops

Wi-Fi Problems in OS X Yosemite

Wi-Fi Problems in OS X Yosemite (2)

Wi-Fi Problems in OS X Yosemite (3)

WiFi Potential Temporary fix - Yosemite

Also try turning off Bluetooth.

WIFI AND BLUETOOTH FINALLY SOLVED, NO REALLY - YOSEMITE 10.10

If your Wi-Fi source is capable of generating a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, try that to help avoid conflicts with Bluetooth.

This worked for me (based on Linc Davis's answer)

1. In System Preferences » Energy Saver » Power Adapter tab:

- uncheck "Wake for Wi-Fi network access"

2. In System Preferences » Network:

- delete Wi-Fi from the service list by clicking the minus sign

- recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign

3. In System Preferences » Network » Wi-Fi settings » Advanced » TCP/IP

- change "Configure IPv6" to "Link-local only"

I do not know which of these steps was the answer but doing all three cleared the problem right up.

[First time post to this forum - as the people above helped me out by posting their experiences]

I was able to fix my problem by using this solution:

2. In System Preferences » Network:

- delete Wi-Fi from the service list by clicking the minus sign

- recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign

With one addition: I had to reboot afterwards.

No more problems encountered - and it's been 24 hour already (whereas I'd see the problems every 15 minutes or so).
