Brother HL110 laser wont print over usb

Really frustrating ..have a 2013 Macbook Air and a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina...both running latest Yosemite and identical Brother software ( latest)

When I plug the USB of the Brother HL1110 into the retina I can print fine..I can also print from the Air over wifi using the retina as a Server

However when I plug the usb into the air it wont print...It can see the printer ..and the printer light is green but when it goes to print it says

error cannot send data to printer...

Really frustrating as sometimes I have to take the Macbook Retina to work and cant print from the Air at home.

Have uninstalled everything and re-installed makes no difference?
