Biking with Apple map

So a few months ago, I had the wonderful pleasure of learning that I really can never use apple "maps" while biking. I need the app as it links to my watch to remind of a direction, but here's what I learned and switched to google maps for biking purposes. Without telling me, the app switched from walking to driving and I continued following the instructions. After getting honked at by drivers for not being allowed on that major road, the app suggested that I get on to a highway. I smiled and realized I had to stop listening! To link with my watch one day, when will Apple maps allow for a bike option so I do not need to use google maps. Also would love it if Apple did not threaten my own life!

The switch from walking to driving has to do with the speed that you are moving on the map. It seems that when you are moving faster than you would when walking, the app determines you must be driving, since it does not have a bike option. To suggest a bike option for maps, you would need to let Apple know you would like to see that enhancement. To do that, you need to use the feedback page, as Apple does not participate here on the forum. The feedback page is http://www.apple.com/feedback and then click on the appropriate subject area.

P.S. Apple did not threaten your life, it was your decision to follow the app without looking at the map itself. Any GPS and/or mapping application will tell you at the beginning that it is your responsibility to be cautious, and they have no liability for you using the app.

I have had the same problem riding a bike. I use google maps now because it simply follows the bike routes (most of the time).

Google maps can also do a few other things that apple cant, has a better map database etc. Unfortunately apple maps is falling behind.

I think everyone here would agree with me: use the tool that best meets your needs. Further, I think most of the people I know here have no vested interest in which tool you chose.

Should you feel a need to let Apple (who isn't reading here) how you feel, you can do it here:

Best of luck.

I experienced the same problem described previously when the App, for no reason, switched from "walking" to " driving".

It's not for no reason. This was explained very early on in this thread. It switches to driving when you start moving faster than a person could move on their own two feet.

As also previously noted, you should use the tool that best meets your needs. And, if you want Apple to know how you feel, use the feedback page.
