Exchange with out a receipt

I received Apple TV as a gift. I already have one. I'd like to exchange it, but I don't have a receipt. Is there a way to determine where it was purchased from the serial number?

Is the one you received the same model as your existing one as the new Apple TV 4 was recently released and has quite a few new features. Do you have more than one TV? Many of us have and use more than one Apple TV in a household so you could consider doing that.

If the Apple TV was purchased at an Apple Store, they have a policy to allow you to return it as a gift without receipt. Since it was a gift you might not know where it was purchased. As part of the Apple policy you can enter the serial number on the Apple website to check if it is eligible for return. Read the gift section of this page for instructions:
