How to reinstall a previously purchased app from Apple Store, NOT re-dowload from iCloud.

How to reinstall a previously purchased app from Apple Store, NOT re-dowload from iCloud.

We use the Deltek Time & Expenses app at our office for time and expense reports on our iPhones. All of a sudden one day the app on my phone stopped recognizing our server URL (no other employees have this issue). I've tried everything that I could from my end, including reinstalling the app, re-entering URL and IP, restarting the phone, etc. Same URLs and app work for everyone else.

It comes down to the fact that the app file on my phone is corrupt. If I delete the app and reinstall it, the phone pulls it from the cloud because I had purchased the app before. How can I download the app from Apple Store all over again, instead of pulling it from the cloud?

Thanks,
Oskar

Since the App Store is a download site what do you mean by "downloading from the cloud?" How do you not download via some cloud.

Did you look on your Purchases list in the App Store - it's the Purchases icon in the App Store menu. There is no "Get" involved. Your purchases are listed as so:

You can select Install or Download.

fromsouth, do you know WHY that wouldn't work? Does the app leave some kind of trace on the phone that does not get removed/reset by reinstalling the app?

Because downloading using "the cloud" and downloading as new is the same, precisely cause there is no track left on the phone. You are thinking that downloaded from "the cloud" version will contain the same corruption that is on the phone now, but you are wrong.

The way you would get the same corruption would be if you were restoring the whole device from icloud backup. Just the little cloud symbol that you see is more of "itunes in the cloud" marketing, there none of your data inside. If application support has your account and after you open app and sign in your info may come back, but clicking that little cloud and downloading new app is one and the same.

Kappy, the only option I have there is to download from the cloud (NOT "get" it anew from the store).

I may be understanding this incorrectly - so please correct me if so - if I download a previously purchased app from the cloud, it is the same file, literally, right? So, in order to "fix" a corrupt app on the phone I need to get a new file for the app, correct? Or does the app leave some trace on my phone that may be the root for the persisting issue? Is there a way to fix that?

Oskar

Hi Oskar,

It looks like the app update Deltek released on 12-17-2015 is not working for iOS 9.2.

If you iPhone is running iOS 9.2, then that is most likely the issue.

I would recommend contacting Deltek directly to open a ticket for support, that what we did.

(hopefully more tickets will get this fixed faster)

We have several users that broke since updating.

All iPhone users not on 9.2 work just fine.

All Android users work just fine as well.

As of now, the only workaround (and I stress workaround, as you get limited functionality) is to open Deltek from Safari using the same URL.

For Safari, you can only add time to existing time sheets and submit.
You cannot add new items to charge time to.

Potentially, if you did a backup of your phone to your PC via USB cable to iTunes before the Deltek app update, you might be able to restore the previous version of the app.

⚠ Back up your phone first before you do anything, I have not tried this so I have no idea what it will do or if it will even work.

So proceed at your own risk. I would recommend contacting Deltek support, and not doing the below.

Only try this if you have no other options.

This is my disclaimer incase you loose any data or brick your phone. 😉

You would need to first delete the app from your phone.

Then connect it to USB and perform a restore, technically, it should reinstall the older Deltek app.

After that, you would want to turn off auto updates for apps until Deltek releases a fix.

Though we have no end users that have backed up their phones recently enough for this to be feasible on our side.

If you attempt this, please let me know how it goes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Chris
