Godaddy IMAP problems after 10.11.2

after upgrading to OS X 10.11.2 i have a very annoying problem with one of my IMAP accounts that have 5000+ messages in inbox and sent items.

Mail app re-download messages (can't say after exactly how often, but a few times per day) for one of my e-mail IMAP accounts(hosted by godaddy).I mean Mail app delete and then re-download messages. Also strange thing that total number of mails in inbox/sent items is different from webmail (20-30 less).Last mail in my webmail dates 2011 and in Mail app the oldest one dated 2013.

SAME PROBLEM ON TWO MACS!!

Other mail accounts(less than 5000 mails) have difference in messages amount with webmail ,but there is now re-download issue with them.

Zoho, icloud accounts work flawless include same similar number of messages in webmail and Mail app.

ipad/iphone - have no such ssue

Mailbox rebuild, deleting MAIL folder and com.apple.mail.plist have no effect

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), null

Moved my mail from GODADDY to Google Aps and a few free IMAP providers:

1)re-downloading issue disapeared

2)Total messages number in Maill app and Webmail is still different

*Total number of messages in Thunderbird Mail app and other 3-rd party mail apps are exactly the same as Webmail.

May be there is some issue with GODADDY that causes re-download issue, but there is still a bug in Apple Mail which causes differences in total messages amount between Mail app and Webmail.

What about you?Is it just a re-download issue?

@rotechflightsafety,

Actually, GoDaddy is not the worst. I have been dealing with hosting companies, site hosting, email hosting, and many other web related services and I can promise you that GoDaddy is not the worst in ANY category. They ain't the best either, I can promise that as well.

In this case I have to say though that this is 100% an Apple, OS X issues. When every other mail client I have tried, Firebird, Outlook, etc., and all of them work with GoDaddy Workspace mail then the problem is not GoDaddy. You can't blame them for not supporting even email client either. Now the fact that they won't even try to help most of the time, yeah, I would have fired my support agents if they tried that. I thought them all to say they would help as long as they didn't have other calls relating to our products waiting, they were to make sure that the client had a backup and they could help to the best of their abilities. That was respectful support. Often they would at least narrow down issues to who was responsible for fixing it too.

My experience with this issue has been tech willing to help to the best of their abilities on the Apple side, but unwilling to admit fault. On the other side helping to prove it wasn't GoDaddy's fault but not willing to go any further. Add those two together and divide by the support knowledge I have and sprinkle in a little Googling and I was able to prove who's issue it was, get GoDaddy to almost admit that the issue was known but that they weren't fixing it, and that Exchange via GoDaddy was the only solution if sticking with them, or I could take my email business elsewhere. That told me what I needed to do.

Now I hear a rumor that Apple might fix it in some future release... That gets me mad at Apple. Tell me that up front, let me know the issue is known and you're working on it. Let me decide whether or not to move or wait it out; allow me the information to make and educated decision. In other words, don't act like Microsoft and BS me. That is what ****** me off.

My situation is a little complicated because our company had a lot of emails on the server so I'm busy archiving them across all account. When this is done I'm planning to switch. Was going to go with gmail for business, but after reading the posts above I may just go with the 365 option.

In the meantime, for the problematic account (mine). I found archiving to a folder on the server helped significantly. I still have the syncing problem, but it's much more sporadic. I'm archiving from that folder to a local mailbox and then I'll delete from the server and then I'm hoping the problem will just go away.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to switch our accounts once I'm confident I have emails archived and backed up locally.

EDIT: As if to prove the power of the Godaddy/Mail curse, after a day or two of stability (and within moments of posting this) a bunch of my emails disappeared again. 😐

I was in the same position as all of you. New emails appearing and then vanishing, until I re-launched the Mail app. All day long. A nightmare for work productivity.

I like the layout and functionality of Apple's Mail app on the Mac, so yesterday I decided to call Godaddy about the 365 email. I just renewed my workspace email in January ($100), and the Godaddy rep offered to give me a full refund and apply the credit to 365. I kind of got the guy to admit that the workspace IMAP service is antiquated and therefore not as future-proof.

I had an intense folder hierarchy on the workspace IMAP server, so first I had to drag each folder onto the "On My Mac" section in the Mail App to save it locally and not lose my emails. Mail App is so good about this, that after 365 was up, I was able to drag any folders I want onto the Exchange server in the sidebar, and they were uploaded to the account as if they arrived there originally, and they seamlessly synced across all my devices. With Exchange, iOS defaults to sync "1 week", so if you're missing email, don't forget to change that to "No Limit".

Pros:

-365 is literally half the cost of Workspace email for 1 email account! (You can create free alias' for other accounts, like "info@", and they work immediately)

-It's working beautifully on Apple's Mail App on my Mac (the whole reason I did this), and still perfect on all iOS devices.

Cons:

-You need to edit a couple server based records (TXT, CNAME, etc.). The non-techsavvy will freak out, but Godaddy support is very good about walking you through it. I have my site hosted through aphotofolio and don't have access to server files. fortunately their tech support guys were amazing about doing it for me, and in less than an hour.

-Your emails will be offline as long as it takes you to wait for Godaddy's automated setup, and then while you edit those documents (roughly 2 hours for me). Do it at night!

I'm very happy. It saved me money, but cost me my evening. Workspace is 100% the problem, 365 is the solution. I'm still amazed that I'm receiving new emails on time and that they aren't disappearing! (It's aways funny to be so happy about something working normally)

PS. I would never have considered buying a Microsoft service, but I can't complain about Exchange. That's really all this is, but with a 365 wrapper.
