zipcloud

I thought ZipCloud was backing up my MacBook Pro. Then I upgraded to El Capitan. Notes went away and I can't figure out how to get them from ZipCloud. I can't even tell IF they're backed up, let alone can be restored. Apple has told me that entire applications disappearing is not unknown to them when users update to El Capitan. <sigh> I feel like I want to cry. I have all manner of info stored in Notes. Glass fusing schedules, client info, rebuilding my recipe cache, etc. Several years of this. And now... Now I have no Notes. I can't seem to understand IF my ZipCloud backed up my data. I wanted to find ZipCloud (the company) to write them, but I kept finding other Mac users and thought I'd post here and see if I can garner any help. I went out and bought an external drive so will be downloading my files from ZipCloud and hope to not loose this external drive. (I lost my last one... a 2TB, when if fell off a table. <arg>) With the demise of that drive I thought I should use the cloud, but I am disenchanted now, when I can't find the files I thought should be backed up on ZipCloud. But I've not tried to backup from it before and perhaps I'm missing some major piece of info. Any help will give you my appreciation and good prayers for you. thank you.

cloud storage, such as zip cloud, iCloud, OneDrive should never be used as a backup. Instead use an external drive directly connected to the Mac as a dedicated backup method.

Cloud storage should only be used as short term way of distributing files from one source to another computer or mobile device.

Companies that supply cloud storage do not guarantee or state that files will be available after it is uploaded.

Many of these companies have gone bust or stopped the service and left unsuspecting users without access to their work.

"ZipCloud," sometimes named "JustCloud," is a cloud-storage service with a doubtful reputation. The OS X client is sometimes distributed along with malware. Although ZipCloud may not be malicious itself, it should be suspected by virtue of the company it keeps.

To remove ZipCloud, please start by backing up all data (not with ZipCloud itself, of course.)

Quit the "ZipCloud" or "JustCloud" application, if it's running, and drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash. Don't try to empty yet.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/LaunchAgents

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Open

from the contextual menu.* A folder named "LaunchAgents" should open.

In the folder, there may be one or more files with a name beginning as follows:

com.jdibackup.

Move all such files to the Trash.

Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I appreciate those who answered my query. ZipCloud also answered finally my post to their tech dept. They said they are aware of an issue with their control panel and will get back to me. It sounds like I'm SOL. So I have my new TB external backup, but it can't backup what it wasn't there for and that's what I need. <sigh> I know that I should back up, but what frustrates me is I thought I was. I didn't know cloud wasn't good for back up. I appreciate that point of view. Live and learn. Now I'll take a breath, redo several clients work from the beginning and look forward to a better year in 2016. Happy New Year!
