I can get a good deal on 2 x 8 GB's (16 GB total) of Patriot RAM.
Is Patriot RAM okay, trustworthy, etc.?

OWC and Crucial are the best sources of Mac compatible RAM. They are the only ones I consider installing in my MBPs. Allan Eckert and steve359 are spot on in their recommendations.

Dumb question but how do you make sure your MacBook Pro is grounded? By having it placed on a surface of some kind?

What is a kernel panic? Is that when the screen sort of flashes for a millisecond. I think I saw a couple of flashes, or, I think I think I saw a couple of flashes. Not sure.
Normally after a kernel panic your Mac will freeze and then display on the screen the message to restart your Mac in four or five different languages.
